What I learned from "Breaking the Two-Party Doom Loop: The Case for Multiparty Democracy in America" by Lee Drutman
I started a political party in March 2021 before reading DOOM LOOP. This book convinced me to try something else.
"Breaking the Two-Party Doom Loop: The Case for Multiparty Democracy in America" by Lee Drutman >
I outlined lessons learned from research to start a new political party in a August 2021 Substack article:
Changing Congress is a generational shift that needs to occur from the inside out. Congress will not fix Congress until we send people there who commit to a good faith representation of the American people. We need a way in. Drutman’s description of the political parties in the book’s opening as two parties that were in essence four parties. Republican, Democrat, and two shadow parties, Republican and Democrat moderates.
This is what’s missing and needs to be restored to make any progress.
The author’s explanation of everything that needs to change convinced me that it’s just too much to overcome. Way too much.
We only have one lifetime and can only do so much to contribute to a generational change.
